Q. What are article reprints? Why should I use them?
A. A reprint is the reuse of an editorial article outside of its original publication.

Unlike a photocopy you'd make on your own, it is a high-quality, offset printed reproduction of an article that was written about your company, products and services or employees. View our portfolio of samples.

Unlike a typical marketing brochure you'd publish, it is an impartial, third-party endorsement of your company or product.

Our team of reprint specialists works to custom-design the reprint to accentuate what you want your clients, partners and employees to see first and last. It provides a lasting impression and serves as a powerful testimonial. We'll handle all the necessary copyright permissions and deliver a beautiful reprint for your important promotional events. We'll manage every aspect of the reprint creation for you.

Don't miss the opportunity to gather and showcase what well-respected publication sources say about you and your brand. As your exclusive reprint provider, we will optimize your advertising dollars and save your valuable time for other matters — like brainstorming your next big ad campaign.

Q. How soon can I have my order?
A. Whatever your delivery requirement, we will do everything we can to meet it. With our standard program, it usually takes 13 to 15 business days from the time your reprint order is placed until it ships. For an e-print, it's 5 to 10 business days from order to shipment. You can choose either FedEx Saver or FedEx Priority for your shipment method. With FedEx Saver, delivery is guaranteed within three business days. With FedEx Priority, delivery is on the next business day.
Rush processing of your reprint orders is available for an additional cost. See Rush Charges.

To avoid the need to rush an order and incur the additional charges, here are the three ways you can help us meet your deadline. These critical items are needed from you for print production to start.

  • Provide a purchase order or letter of intent in a timely manner. If credit authorization is required, complete and submit your credit application to ensure a quick review and response by RMS.

  • Promptly review and authorize proofs which are sent for your approval. A quick turnaround of a proof approval can speed the processing of your order.
  • If you are providing RMS with your company's logo, advertisement or other materials to be used in the reprint, send it to RMS right after you have placed your order to avoid any delays. These are special options that help enhance your reprint.

Q. What are my color options for reprints?
A. There are several options available for reprints: 2-Color, 4-Color/ Full-Color, and Black and White.

2-color reprints are produced using black ink and one standard Pantone© color. A second color is normally added to a black and white reprint to highlight a callout or to match a company or magazine logo color. See sample.

4-color reprints are also referred to as full-color. They are produced using standard four-color process inks. These are: Cyan, Magenta and Yellow and Black. If the article was originally printed in color, the reprint will be an exact replication of the original.

Black and White reprints are also referred to as single-color or 1-color reprints. They are produced using black ink only.

Q. What is a copyright permission?
A. An authorization or copyright clearance provided by a publisher, author or photographer for reuse of any copyrighted material, whether a text article, newsletter, e-zine, photograph, illustration or other original content. See our Products and Services area for a more in-depth description of copyright permissions.

Q. For what publications do you serve as the reprint provider?
A. We are the exclusive provider for over 250 publishers and 600 magazines. We continue to actively acquire new partners from every industry. Go to our Publisher Partners page for a representative listing.

Q. How can I get an article or product review on my web site?
A. We can produce and deliver e-prints for your web site or intranet. An e-print or web print is the electronic reuse of editorial in one of the following electronic formats: HTML (web page), PDF or plain text. This electronic reuse is usually posted on a site other than the original publication. The usage periods for an e-print vary from publication to publication but are typically six months, one year or unlimited.

RMSNet is a dedicated web server we own for the specific purpose of hosting your e-print. We ensure that you meet all the requirements set by the publisher for reusing the digital content. Some publishers restrict the distribution of e-prints and do not permit you to host an e-print on their own web site. Using RMSNet, we can get that glowing article or product review to appear on your public or internal web site. Get an E-print Quote.

Q. Can I make layout changes to an article? And what sizes are allowed?
A. Yes, a reprint specialist can advise you regarding the best way to visually design the article reprint. See Our Portfolio for samples of reprints with highlighting, with a company logo, with an advertisement, banner and so on. The specialist will also work on your behalf to get permission for any editorial changes or third-party content that may be required from the original publication, photographer or author.

The typical reprint size is either 8.5" x 11" or the actual size of the publication after final fold. If the publication was originally a tabloid, you may have the option of printing full size or reducing to 8.5" x 11.

Q. Can I see a proof of the article reprint?
A. Yes, you will be contacted by a reprint specialist regarding your receipt and approval of a proof of your article reprint before it is printed. This proof will represent the final layout of the article as well as any other design treatment you requested.

Blueline Proof: For reprints, we typically provide blueline proofs. A blueline proof is film-based. On it, all colors appear as shades of blue on an ivory or white paper.

Laser Proof: A proof that is generated when electronic media is used to create the reprint or e-print. A laser proof will provide a true representation of 2-color and 4-color reprints. For e-prints, proofs are typically provided in PDF format.

PDF Proof: A proof provided in electronic file format that captures the desired look and feel of your article. This format contains critical font and presentation parameters that are required to make printing plates for traditional reprints. It is a popular format for providing proofs to buyers and for e-prints.

Q. What are the minimum quantities for reprint orders?
A. The minimum quantities are:

Black and White = 100 reprints.

Two-Color = 100 reprints.

Full-Color/Four-Color = 500 reprints.

Q. What payment methods do you allow?
A. RMS offers buyers the following options on the web to pay for reprints, e-prints or permission rights:

Credit Card: We honor VISA, MasterCard and American Express.

Pre-Payment: You may pre-pay with a check.

Purchase Order: If you have approved credit with RMS, you may fax us a copy of a purchase order. Customers may apply for credit with RMS by completing a credit application. Download the form now!
